Pride Parades
Turkey is the very first Muslim majority country to host a Pride Parade and has been holding them since Istanbul's first parade in 1993 with only 30 participants marching. By the year 2011 the number of people participating had jumped to 10,000 people. Now some of the leaders of opposition parties like the Republican People's party and the Peace and Democracy party are lending their support to LGBT demonstrations. The demonstrations work to increase visibility to fight homophobic and discriminatory violence. During the Pride Week there are events held at closed locations to help inform and support members of the LGBT community.
